On June 6,1997 there was a prom like any other prom for Lacey Township High School and noone would have ever expected something like this to ever happen.
In Forked River,NJ Melissa Drexler woke up that morning having contractions. Later on that morning, her water ended up breaking, while she was getting ready for her prom and deceided to go to the prom anyway instead of going to the hospital. At the Aberdeen Township Banquet Hall in New Jersey{ where they held her prom}, she realized she was ready to have her baby so she went to the girls bathroom and delivered her baby by herself, with her friends standing outside the stall. After the baby was born, she sent her friends out to tell the boys she's coming back. When they left, she cut the umbilical cord in the napkin dispenser in the girls bathroom. Then, she rapped her baby in two garbages bag and threw him in the garbage even though the baby was already suffocated. Then, she went back to her prom and started dancing.
Someone ended up calling the maintenance because of the blood that was coming out of the garbage bags. Later, they charged Melissa Drexler with murder and she pled guilty to aggravated manslaughter, on October 29,1998. After she pled guilty , she read her statement in court. She was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
Melissa Drexler was released from prison on November 2001, at the age 23 to go home and live with her parents. She was noted to be a model prisoner. Melissa Drexler took fashion courses while in prison and hopes to work in the industry, said her lawyer, Steven Secare.
